Postdoc position Nijmegen

Postdoctoral Researcher Mathematical Physics (1,0 fte)

Faculty of Science
Maximum salary: € 3,908 gross/month
Vacancy number: 62.22.15
Application deadline: 30 April 2015

Responsibilities

As a postdoctoral researcher you will work on the research project ‘Noncommutative Geometry and Quantum Lattice Gauge Fields’ led by Walter van Suijlekom. This project is funded by a VIDI grant from the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO). More specifically, you will work on the construction of a continuum limit of a quantum lattice gauge theory, using techniques from noncommutative geometry. A key role will be played by lattice subdivisions, translated to the observable level through appropriate algebra maps and the development of a suitable renormalization scheme.

Work environment

The research programme will be carried out in the Mathematical Physics Department of the Institute for Mathematics, Astrophysics and Particle Physics at Radboud University (Nijmegen, Netherlands). This institute encompasses research in mathematical physics, elementary particle physics and quantum gravity, thus offering a great environment for this project.
The mathematical physics group currently consists of 6 staff members, 5 postdoctoral fellows, and 7 PhD candidates. The group is well-embedded in the NWO mathematics cluster ‘Geometry and Quantum Theory’ and in the European COST Action ‘Quantum Structure of Spacetime’.

What we expect from you

-a PhD degree in Mathematics;
-a strong affinity with mathematical physics;
-preferably experience with functional analysis and/or knowledge of renormalization theory;
-excellent proficiency in written and spoken English.

What we have to offer

– employment: 1,0 fte;
– a maximum gross monthly salary of € 3908 based on a 38-hour working week (salary scale 10);
